Reflection Post

Heyy guys!!! We have finally arrived at the end of this project. I have very mixed feelings about this project coming to an end, on one side I feel so relieved I don’t have to stress over this project any longer, but on the other side I feel nervous. Me and Lydia have put so much effort into our project and we really hope that is good enough, but one can’t ever really know what people are actually thinking. For my reflection post, I thought it would make sense to reflect back on those fun and not so fun parts of this project.

    The Research

The first part of this project, the first week, it seems so distant but it was only 2 months ago. Researching genre conventions and the little parts of every genre felt boring at times, but actually connecting the examples to movies I’ve watched before, made it just a tiny bit better, but still not the funnest part. I will say that learning about this world that I did not know about a year prior was extremely fun, I like learning to some extent, especially when it is about something I like.

    Planning

The actual time where we were able to start putting our ideas into paper. Looking back on it, seeing our idea grow from the genre we chose to the final idea we decided on is amazing. At first we wanted to make a mad scientist that makes a time machine to go back in time, our second idea was to make this guy go into a party and realize this was a different timeline. Lastly, the idea we all know and love, the idea we landed on, a girl who is making glasses that let her see into the future and ends up seeing her death. I feel really proud of us for coming up with an idea so creative, I love this idea and there is absolutely nothing I would change about it.

    Production

After finishing up with the idea we could finally start creating it. This came with TONS of planning, luckily for us most of the filming took place inside, which saved us from some unnecessary problems like the weather and lighting. Filming took a solid 3 and a half hours, and for a good chunk of it I had to fit in the tiniest gap between my desk and the wall, it is safe to say my back has not been the same since. After many laughs many retakes, and many adjustments we finished filming around 9 pm. Filming I would say was one of the most fun experiences I’ve ever had when related to a class. Wrapping up with filming was so relieving, it felt like such a weight lifted off of my shoulders.

    Post-Production

The day came to start editing with Lydia and oh boy was it difficult. At first we wanted to edit in DaVinci Resolve, but ended up having to move to ClipChamp. ClipChamp was not so easy either, by the time everything had exported into the software, a good chunk of our time had been wasted. But that did not hold us down, the next day we tried again, and we ended up editing nearly all of the opening. Soon after we got feedback on the editing, and made the changes accordingly, meaning the end of our portfolio project.

    CCRs!!

THE FINAL PART!! Oh my lord, after several weeks, finally came the actual last part. The two videos we are meant to do to talk about or project. I had so many ideas for both of my videos, and ended up recoding them with time. I feel so relieved to be done with this, I feel like I can finally breath.

CCR Post-production

For the editing of my CCRs I was finally able to use DaVinci Resolve, which is the software I'm most comfortable in. I spent around 3 hours editing each CCR and ended up both being around 9 minutes and 36 seconds combined.

Editing the First CCR #1

I edited my first CCR in around 3 hours. It was so exhausting I'm not even gonna lie, but after I locked in I was able to finish way faster than I expected. This CCR definetly took the longest since this one was 5 minutes and 58 seconds. I also had to put most of the references at the end and I struggled to make them fit, but at the end it all worked out.

Editing the Second CCR #2

Editing this video felt like a breeze, it was so much easier since I was already concentrated on the first  video. I also had to put some references here but they were way less than the previous video. Doing all of these were amazing for the improvement of my editing skills.

Production of CCRs

Hello everyone!! Today I'll be talking about the production of my two CCR videos, I spent so much time recording both and now I can finally relax. Both recordings took around 3 hours each and they were so hard on my room and the kitchen.

    CCR #1

The first CCR took place in my room, I put my projector up to have a projection of the Earth on the background of my video, then for the lighting I had the two colored lights, I put one in blue and the other one in purple. I did all of this to make my CCRs visually interesting, I really hope it worked because I'm not the most gifted talker. My room looked a mess by the time I was done with this CCR but I can say that I was incredibly proud of myself.
Ignore the city (I was testing the projector)

CCR #2

This took place in my dining room!! This was way more comfortable than my room was. I had my amazing helper, my twin sister. She recorded and moved the slides all on her own, she truly was my savior in this specific CCR. I had the project up as well to cast a series of slides I made. I also had the lights so I was visible enough during the video. I actually really liked this one too.

CCR Question #4

Juan: Welcome everyone to Juan's director commentary of Moribund. Today I will be answering CCR questions 3 and 4.

Juan: The question is, how did you integrate technologies - software, hardware, and onlyine - inthis project? We used a variety of different technologies during the production of our project, this included my phone, canva, Clipchamp, and two different lighting equipments. To record our project we used my phone, which is the iPhone 16 Pro. For our lighting scheme we used a lamp that had the options to change to different colors, and another big lamp that had cool, warm, and intermediate lighting. For our hardware we used used Canva to make our company logo. When it came to editing we used ClipChamp, which allowed us to both edit at the same time from two different places. We had a few obstacles in the production process, having to change our editing software from DaVinci Resolve to ClipChamp due to us being unable to edit together in DaVinci, and having to scatter and change the gender of a character from a man to a woman. Aside from all of that this project went pretty smoothly.

CCR Question #3

Juan: Welcome everyone to Juan's director commentary of Moribund. Today I will be answering CCR questions 3 and 4. (I will probably answer question 4 first).

Juan: Now moving onto question 3. How did your production skills develop throughout the project. At first I was pretty nervous of my shooting and editing skills, but by the time we were done with the project I realized how much I have improved. First we began with the research process, which for me I found fun. Since back then I was not sure what genre I wanted to do, I researched both Sci-fi and Horror, this process included researching things like distribution, marketing, and the many conventions this genres hold. When it came to the production process, we had all planned out but we were forced to change the our main character due to some problems with our previous actors. We also spent a great amount of time maaking the props that would make up Owen's room, which for us was super important and could not be over looked. I also spent a good amount of my time practicing editing by doing a very small project that took me no longer than a few hours to make. I started this project extremely nervous, I was very insecure of my abilities when it came to production. Now I feel proud, even though my production skills have a long way to go, I feel like I've improved a lot since the begining.

Ideas for CCR

Hey guyss! Today I'll tell you about the ideas that I have for my CCRs. I really want both to be creative and achievable since I don't have much time.

The first idea I was given was during our second group meeting by one of my amazing classmates. This idea is basically doing a Bill Nye style show. I really like this idea because it ties into the scientific theme that my project deals into. I would have a coat on and some goggles to really be immersed in the character and would answer the questions as if in the TV show.

The second idea is doing a director commentary, I've seen this done with some films and I really like this idea. I will most definetly add some more things to the video rather than just my voice in the background. Both ideas I think are good, and can't wait to execute them.
